Context & Objective
A leading defense manufacturer sought to develop a next-generation long-range radio module combining wideband operation, high efficiency, and compact integration. The objective was to design a power amplifier solution suitable for multiple military applications while meeting strict size and performance constraints.
Challenge
The customer required a single PA platform capable of addressing several frequency bands, integrating advanced architectures, and fitting into a compact, cost-effective package (MMIC), all while maintaining high RF efficiency and robustness.
WUPATEC’s Contribution
WUPATEC led the full RF design process of the power amplifier module, from feasibility to final chip integration:
Feasibility study and technology selection to identify the optimal semiconductor and packaging approach.
Power amplifier design using MMIC and multichip technologies, with architectures optimized for wide instantaneous bandwidth and high efficiency.
Complete RF measurement & characterization, validating output power, linearity, and efficiency.
Performance Optimization & System Alignment, WUPATEC optimized the amplifier’s performance based on the customer’s system requirements and constraints. In addition, WUPATEC proposed ongoing support through the integration and tuning of an in-house Digital Predistortion (DPD) solution, specifically optimized for this power amplifier and fully compatible with the customer’s system.
